October 11 Bargaining Recap
We spent the day intensely bargaining over a package of 8 proposals. The package includes two articles that outline rights and responsibilities of the employer (Management Rights) and those of the union (Union Rights), which together define the structure of the relationship between our union and UW administration. We also proposed a Layoff and Time Reduction article, which defines layoffs and outlines notice requirements. Our proposal included stronger protections and clear timelines for employees facing layoff that are more robust than current policy requires. UW admin countered with language that does not provide the job security and transparency that RSEs deserve.
Because we wanted to make substantial movement with these proposals, we communicated with UW Admin that we would have counter proposals for them before the conclusion of our session. Unfortunately, UW Admin adjourned early so we were unable to present our counter proposals.
Full proposal exchanges can be found at the Bargaining Center throughout negotiations.
