Bargaining Committee RSE A-4

Tricia Wu (she/her)

I study how different medications cause hearing loss using the zebrafish animal model. It’s important to me that we win a fair first contract that will improve the equity and working conditions for all RSEs at UW.

Abby Gambrill (she/her)

Physiology & Biophysics

I am an electrophysiologist in the department of Physiology & Biophysics. I am committed to making sure RSEs have job security, earn a fair wage that allows them to live in a city like Seattle, and are protected from discrimination and harassment at work.

Van Redila

Otolaryngology

Understanding mechanisms of ototoxic drugs. I here to give a voice to Research staff.

Anya Kalata

Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

I am a research scientist I in the Murphy Lab at UW. While I love my position, feel accommodated and respected in my role, I am a huge advocate for worker’s rights and understand that worker’s interests are diametrically opposed to employer’s interests. As a neurodivergent and bilingual scientist with dual-citizenship, I feel that I would add to the diversity of the bargaining committee. It would be a huge honor.

Ellen Maclachlan

I-TECH/Global Health

I work to support UW programs in HIV in Malawi. Grants in global health are particularly volatile and I am part of the union to find ways to work with UW to increase job security for research scientists who do important work and are highly skilled employees.

Stacey Wedlake (she/her)

Information School

I’m a social scientist that works with communities to understand and address digital inequities. I wanted to join the Bargaining Committee to help create clear, sustainable career paths for Research Scientists.

Deborah Nemens (she/her)

I am a fire ecology researcher studying the impact of wildfire and prescribed burning on plant communities and landscape vegetative dynamics. I am interested in improving working conditions for researchers at UW and excited to be a part of this effort for greater self-determination.

Galen Stewart (he/him)

Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

Before working at UW Medicine I was a contract worker at a laboratory medicine company. I am currently a research scientist 1 working in a pathology lab studying kidney disease, and I also work in the histology core facility at the SLU. I am interested in joining the committee because of my experience in industry and in the academic settings have made me very familiar with the needs, wants and concerns of entry level researchers.

Katherine Lasdin (she/her)

Aquatic and Fishery Sciences

I am a research associate in the SAFS department looking at microplastics in the marine environment. I started at UW in August 2021 but greatly enjoyed being in a union as a grad student in the past. During my time at UW, I want to unionize and bargain for fair contracts and treatment for all.

Morgan Crotta (she/her)

Department of Comparative Medicine

As a research scientist affiliated with both the DCM and the BSL3 I have the unique opportunity to interact with researchers from a a vast array of backgrounds and disciplines. Jay Mas Gilvydis (she/her)

I-TECH/Global Health

I support in global health security initiatives, specifically strengthening public health surveillance and action to improve population health in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South America. I am on the bargaining committee to advocate for additional support and resources for individuals from underrepresented groups in science using an equity framework. This includes individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and women.

Thaddeus Armstrong

Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

I’m a member of the Greninger lab, where we focus on viral genomics and work closely with the clinical lab to generate Next-Gen sequencing data for a variety of specimens. My main project involves Phage display, with the goal to assay immune reactive epitopes from viral peptide sequences. I’m interested in joining bargaining because I feel very strongly about labor rights and have had some negative experiences with a prior union that I’d like to head off at the pass.

Jai Broome (he/him)

Medical Genetics

After three years in the department of Biostatistics, I recently joined the Division of Medical Genetics as a research scientist to set up our lab group’s association testing pipeline and run age-of-onset modified Alzheimer’s disease genome-wide association studies. I’m organizing with my colleagues because we’re ready to advocate for each other and bargain for a contract that expands protections for UW research scientists and engineers, and gives us the tools to fight for equity, inclusion and solidarity in our workplace.

Erin Carll

Center for Evaluation & Research for STEM Equity

I do evaluation and research related to equity in the STEM fields. I would like to join the Bargaining Committee to help spread the work out among the Committee members.

Katie Osterhage (she/her)

Family Medicine

I’m a Research Scientist in the Department of Family Medicine and I also work within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. My work centers providing treatment for patients with Opioid Use Disorder and quality mental health care. I look forward to collectively negotiating a contract with UW that allows research scientists/engineers to continue our meaningful contributions to research while also earning a fair wage, experiencing greater job security, and having an equitable working environment.
