Across the country, academic workers are unionizing at a record pace. More and more of us are recognizing that academic research as a profession is far less equitable than it should be, and that we have more power to make change when we gain the ability to collectively bargain. This is one major reason why we’re asking you to join us in voting YES for unionization today.
Throughout our campaign to win a union, UW Researchers have written about:
- Systemic marginalization of BIPOC researchers at UW that stem from institutionalized forms of discrimination and recruitment and retention;
- The need for evidence-based, bottom-up approaches to preventing harassment and discrimination; and
- Individual roadblocks to career advancement due to bias, a lack of transparency, and isolation;
We — UW Research Scientists/Engineers Assistant, 1, 2, 3, and 4 — can make a difference in addressing issues like these at UW by forming a union. Please make your voice heard today!
