May 22, 2023

We have not yet made the decision to call a strike, but unless we see some major shifts at the bargaining table this week, a work stoppage in early June is looking increasingly likely. The biggest thing you can do to help this week is to attend our Massive May Action this Thursday the 25th at noon. RSVP here! We will be making noise and each unit will be deciding our next steps, including the option of striking. Please prioritize attending.

Striking is the strongest tool we have to secure fair contracts and we are preparing now so that if it is absolutely necessary, we are ready. A work stoppage would be disruptive, not without personal challenge, and could delay the scientific work we are passionate about. It is our sincere hope that UW Administration will stop breaking the law and bargain in good faith with us. But until we see progress from the UW Administration, we will continue to make strike preparations. Doing so will maximize the chances our strike would be successful should it be needed. We sincerely hope that this strike preparation work will never have to be used.

We’ve prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions, should we need to strike. Please review and reach out if you have a question that you don’t see answered here.

Strike FAQ

Again, the most important thing you can do this week to help us win fair contracts is to attend our Mass Action this coming Thursday at noon. RSVP here and make sure your colleagues are planning to be there as well. And get excited to make some more noise!
