Today, UW Researchers held our first Bargaining Session with members of UW administration’s bargaining team. Thanks to our majority support and unit’s engagement, our team was well prepared, and it was an overall success! We presented our Initial Bargaining Demands, continuing our campaign to create a more fair and equitable working environment for research scientists.
Members of UW’s bargaining team include representatives from the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, College of Environment, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and central HR and Compensation.
After presenting the Initial Bargaining Demands, we discussed the bargaining Ground Rules proposal. UW administration proposed to prevent Researchers who are not on the Bargaining Committee from attending bargaining sessions. We pushed back by saying that bargaining should be an open and transparent process, and reaffirmed that all Researchers are permitted to attend Bargaining meetings. We hope to reach agreement on the Ground Rules soon.
Next we asked the administration’s team about scheduling additional bargaining session dates. We provided our Bargaining team’s availability three weeks ago and proposed scheduling four sessions each in September as well as additional dates after that, but their team has not yet agreed to any future sessions. They said they would follow up later about scheduling. We expect that all members will be allowed to attend bargaining sessions, and we will keep you informed on dates if you’d like to attend in the future.
What’s next? This Thursday, 8/18 at 5pm on Zoom, there will be a General Meeting where we will go over the first bargaining session in greater depth and answer any questions you may have! Please register here.
